X-Rays in art

We all know that X-Rays are used in medicine. When you sprain your ankle or break a bone, you typically get an x-ray but they can also be used in archeology. In this story(http://bbc.in/1x5LGK3) scientists use and x-ray to determine materials used and encryptions used on artifacts such as this piece of pottery:
